Day 1 – Life With a Paraplegic

Setting Our Sites on California

Within 2 hours of hearing our son Cody was in a life changing accident on the Los Angeles freeway my husband and I were on the road to him.

At the time of Cody’s accident we were finally digging our way out of a financial bind.  When I returned to school to get my master’s degree – it never occurred to me what the future might hold and how that increase in debt would impact us.  In a perfect world that degree would have put our income into the amazing range, but instead put our debt into that range and our income moved slightly up.  To say this accident would have a significant impact on our financial future would be putting it mildly.

The last thing on my mind as we climbed into the car though was money – all I knew is that my son needed me and come hell or high water I was going to get to him.

The Longest Journey Ever!

The journey from Helena, Montana to Los Angeles, California is a very long one especially when all you want in the world is to get to your ailing child.  We stopped at a little hotel somewhere in Nevada the first night, but could only sleep for a couple of hours.  Cody was due in surgery first thing in the morning on April 27, 2017, and we really wanted to be there when he woke up.

We ended up making it just as Cody was really gaining consciousness.  Here is the first of many live videos we did as his journey to healing began.
